Tips To Ensure Your Moving Day Goes Smoothly

Posted on: 22 December 2014

Moving from one home to another can be a time consuming and stressful experience for many people. There are a few tips that you can utilize to help relieve some of this stress and ensure your moving day goes smoothly. Below, you will learn more about a couple of the most effective ways to accomplish this goal:

Color Code Your Box Labels

It can take quite a bit of time to stop and read each label on the dozens or even hundreds of boxes you are likely to move from one house to another. Unfortunately, without the ability to tell what is inside of each box, you will be unable to place it in its appropriate location within your new house. There is an easier way to determine where each box should go without stopping to read each and every label.

Rather than simply writing on your boxes using a pen or permanent marker, consider making use of color coded labels. Assign a single color for each room in your home and then write the contents of each box on the appropriate color label.

Once you have assigned a specific color to each room in your home, use this same color to mark each room on a floor plan of your new home. Distribute a copy of this color coded map to every member of your moving crew. This will allow them to easily determine where each box should be placed without stopping to read labels or being required to make any judgement calls.

Tape All Assembly Hardware Directly To The Furniture

Many pieces of large furniture will need to be disassembled in order to avoid damage during the moving process. In order to quickly reassemble this furniture, you will need to place the necessary hardware and tools somewhere where they can be found easily. The best way to accomplish this goal is to simply store these items directly on the furniture itself.

As you disassemble your furniture, place all of the hardware you have removed from the furniture into a sturdy plastic bag. Once you are finished, place all of the tools you used to complete the disassemble into the bag containing the hardware. Finally, tape the plastic bag directly to the furniture it belongs to using sturdy, waterproof tape.

Keeping all of your hardware and tools with the furniture it belongs to will not only allow you to avoid the issue of missing pieces, but it will also ensure that any member of your movers will be equipped to complete the assembly process for you.
