Four Reasons To Move In The Springtime
Posted on: 28 December 2016
You don't always get a choice of when to move. Sometimes, your company says "you need to move in a month!" and you don't have much say in the matter. However, if you do have some flexibility in the timing of your move, you'll definitely want to opt for springtime. Here are four reasons why spring is the best season for moving.
The weather is nice.
Moving during the winter is inconvenient and sometimes dangerous. You have to worry about people slipping on icy surfaces and your moving truck getting stuck in a storm. Summer also brings the dangers of soaring temperatures and the resulting dehydration and heat exhaustion. In the spring, however, you can count on the temperature being tolerable. You might have to deal with a rain shower or a chill in the air, but a big snow storm or heat wave is unlikely.
Moving companies are more available.
Even though spring is a great time to move, it's not the most popular moving season. More people end up moving in the summer because the kids are out of school and they have more time off. So if you can move in the spring, you're likely to find that moving companies have more open dates in their schedule and are better able to accommodate scheduling needs. If you want to move on the weekend, moving in the spring will make this more of a possibility.
Selling your home is easier.
If you need to sell your home in order to move, spring is the time to do it. Few people house-hunt in the winter. You may get less for your home when the yard is covered in snow and slush than in the spring when flowers are in bloom and grass is green. Summer is not a bad time to sell a home, either, but you'll have had to maintain the landscaping all season long by the time it sells. In the spring, you can maintain the yard for a few weeks and then pass it off to the buyer before the summer drought rolls in!
Cleaning companies often offer discounts.
"Spring cleaning" is an idea that runs so deep that many cleaning companies offer discounts and specials at this time of year. If you need to have your carpets cleaned – or even want to have the whole home cleaned before you move in – you're likely to pay less for this in the spring.
