Part of getting ready to move is gathering all of your moving supplies. While the boxes and packing tape are the obvious things to have ready to go, there are a few additional things that could come in handy that are a bit unexpected. Consider using these moving supplies for a successful move.

Wrapping Paper

When you need to put some extra padding around fragile items, you may make the mistake of reaching for some newspaper. While this is good for some items, you shouldn't use newspaper for wrapping your fine china. The print on the newspaper can come off and potentially ruin the item that you wrapped up to protect.

Wrapping paper is a great alternative, because the print won't rub off on the item it is wrapped around. You can save up your wrapping paper from the holidays or try to find some off-season wrapping paper on clearance soon after the holidays are over. Using wrapping paper will save you the hassle of cleaning dishes once you move in.

Cardboard

In addition to moving boxes, it helps to have cardboard to use when packing. Flat cardboard pieces can be placed between items that are fragile to prevent them from touching, giving them additional protection. You can also use cardboard to divide up boxes, making it easier to sort what is inside.

You can get extra cardboard for free if you visit your local warehouse club store, since they are always giving the extra boxes away to customers to put their purchased items in.

Rubber Bands

Purchase a bag of various sized rubber bands to use for packing. They work great at keeping small things together, such as if you wanted to keep all your silverware organized by type before you put them into a box. Rubber bands can also be used to keep items closed that you are worried about accidentally opening in transit.

Carpet Protection

When you're moving everything into your new house, you won't be thinking about taking off your shoes every time you enter. It helps to get some sort of carpet protection to place in the walking paths, which will help keep the home clean as you're moving in.

You are better off using some plastic and tape to secure it to the floor, since if it is raining, water could soak through a material like cardboard. When in a pinch, cut up some large garbage bags so that they form long strips and apply tape to the edges.
